I managed to find a few flowers for a vase this week, despite more frosty mornings. I love these brave little flowers that seem to hold on as long as they can!

In my garden, Sweet William blooms late June through most of July, but this year some of my plants have surprised me with a few late flowers!

Mountain Bluet was a gift from our neighbor. It blooms almost nonstop all summer and into the fall. The second picture was taken last November!

And that's my vase for this week! I'm looking forward to seeing what others made at: ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/2017/10/16/in-a-vase-on-monday-art-nouveau/

The spent lavender and catnip are a really useful foil for those last few blooms - isn't it lovely to have some plants that just bloom on and on? Thanks for sharing yours

I love the bluet! The lavender seed heads are wonderful too - I'm sorry to admit that I've never looked that closely at them.

Thanks Kris! I didn't pay much attention to the lavender seed heads either until now, when blooms are scarce.

You've found some pretty things and they are more special for being rare. Seed heads are a good addition to a vase.

The spent lavender flowers are lovely; mine were all trimmed off ages ago to keep the plants a good shape, I should have kept some of the flowers back to use as dried flowers.

Thank you Christina! I have been admiring all the lavender in your garden! I have just one plant, and it barely survives our winters.

I always appreciate those last few flowers that brave the frost. I didn't realize that Centaurea montana flowers continually and wow, your Nov. photo in snow! It might earn a spot in my garden. :)

The centaurea montana is at its best in early summer but it does keep on flowering if it is deadheaded (I sometimes forget, but even so there are usually a few flowers). It increases quickly, too. My neighbor gave me a clump of it 3 years ago, and I now have 3 clumps and probably should divide it again!

Spent flowers can look sculptural and interesting in their own way. In fact, I'm putting together materials a post on that topic right now. Our weather is also beginning to limit the flowers in the garden. I like the way you used the fallen leaves as a backdrop!

They are both wonderful! The catnip plant (or plants- it has grown so bushy I can't tell anymore!) still looks really good despite the frosts.
