A Virtual Walk in the Woods

Since it is still rather wintry out and I'm recovering from the flu, I decided just to go for a virtual walk through the woods today, and give you a peak into a couple of the books in my library at the same time! You can even have a little music if you like...this piece really reminds me of a ramble through the woods on a beautiful spring day!  😊

"The opening flower of every weed,
Shall be a joy to thee."
                           ~Mary Howitt
Picture
"That delicate forest flower,
With scented breath and look so like a smile,
Seems, as it issues from the shapeless mould,
An emanation of the indwelling Life,
A visible token of the upholding Love,
That are the soul of this great universe."
                                                       ~William Cullen Bryant
                                                 A Forest Hymn

Picture
"So will I build my altar in the fields,
And the blue sky my fretted dome shall be,
And the sweet fragrance that the wild flower yields
Shall be the incense I will yield to Thee,
Thee only God! and Thou shalt not despise
Even me, the priest of this poor sacrifice."
                                ~Samuel Taylor Coleridge
                    To Nature
Picture
"To me the meanest flower that blows, can give
Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears."
                                                   ~William Wordsworth
Picture
" Consider ye, the Lilies of the field,
Which neither toil nor spin,—not regal pride,
In all its plenitude of pomp reveal 'd,
Could hope to charm, their beauties plac'd beside!
If heavenly goodness thus for them provide,
Which bloom to-day, and wither on the morrow,--
Shall not your wants be from your God supplied,
Without your vain anxiety and sorrow?--
Oh, ye of little faith! from these a lesson borrow!"
                                                 ~Bernard Barton
Picture
"...flowers have always spoken to the mind attuned to receive their message. And it is noteworthy that the thoughts they have suggested have been invariably beautiful ones - the common, the degraded, the impure has no part in the inspiration of flowers.
"But though all the world cares for them and is touched by them it is not given to everyone to be able to express in words the emotions they evoke, so this little Anthology is an attempt to bring together some of the thoughts that they have suggested to those who are past masters in the art of expression, in the hope that they may voice the unspoken love, the half-acknowledged aspirations of those who, though equally true lovers of the flowers, now walk in silence among them."
                                                                                                                                                ~ G. Clarke Nuttall
                                                                                                                                             Ye Flower-Lover's Booke

Such beautiful photos to see on this chilly late winter's day. Can May really be only six weeks away?? Can't wait for those warm, sunny days!

Wow, it hadn't occurred to me that May was that close! We did have a couple of warm days last week and lost about a foot of snow (but we still have a looong way to go before we see bare ground!). It is supposed to warm up again tomorrow. So far this March has been pretty good! 😊

What gorgeous blooms - especially the Ladyslippers. If spring won't come to us, we will go to spring.
