"The sky is low, the clouds are mean, We are just digging ourselves out from under another 20 inches of snow brought in by the polar vortex, which as you can see from this picture (taken the day before) we didn't really need! 😁 Even though I don't look forward to a blizzard like this, I have to admit there's something thrilling about these storms that I rather enjoy. Maybe it's the exhilaration of fighting against the wind in near white-out conditions! I do like to get out and experience it for a while. 😊 A walk in the woods makes me feel like I'm in Narnia! Bringing plants in and out of my greenhouse next month is going to be a bit of a challenge! But I'm really just thankful that the greenhouse is still standing right now. I don't think I ever mentioned it here but two of the PVC pipes broke during a windstorm late last fall and I only had time to tape them with FiberFix. Amazingly it has been holding up very well! Believe it or not, there is a building behind that pile! The snow was so wind packed that the roof rake wouldn't go through it, so I had to get on the roof with the the snow scoop. No ladder necessary...it's just good practice for mountain climbing! 😃 Looking down, it's hard to see where the roof ends and the snow begins! Those are the porch steps in the top of the picture. When I was ready to come down, I just sat down and slid! The garden swing has disappeared. There is a birdbath in there somewhere too! This was a monster of a storm and I know many of you have been affected as well. I hope everyone is safe and warm and enjoying the winter wonderland! 😊

Awesome! Love the poem and the snow, especially since I get to enjoy from afar here in Oregon. Shanks for sharing.

Where in Maine? I lived there 55 years (Augusta & mid coast). Now in northern VA. Miss Maine except the winters. I'm enjoying your blog.

You're way up there! I love living here in the Shenandoah. I've been here 3 years, it's been a gardening learning experience, clay soil, long dry spells. But 8 months of growing season is great. The thing that worries me most about this much snow it that it all has to melt! Of course I want it too, but we get a lot of flooding each spring when that happens. But you're right, it probably is good for the garden. It provides lots of insulation now, and I've heard that snow even has some nitrogen in it (I have yet to verify the truth of that statement though!) 😁

Wow! That's a lotta snow. I used to love to get out in it when I lived up north. Soooo beautiful. I got my seeds and thank you so much for the Antique Poppy seeds. Will give to my dau. I'm going to keep about 20 seeds and see if they will grow here, but I don't think they will. I so much enjoy your poems and photos. Have a wonderful winter wonderland. I would post a pic of the double cactus zennias but can't figure out how to do it on this site.

Oh I'm glad to hear that the seeds arrived safely and I'm glad you liked the poppy seeds! 😊 It never hurts to try growing something when in doubt! I do that a lot, only I have the opposite problem - too cold! Once in a while it results in a pleasant surprise success...like the castor bean plants last summer. I'm wondering if the poppies would do best for you if they were prechilled and grown during the winter months. Just an idea...I don't know much at all about gardening in FL! 😁

It has been cold. The day before the storm the high temperature was only -4 F. And it didn't get above 0 until late afternoon yesterday. But it's supposed to warm up a bit and even rain in a couple days...crazy weather! 😁

Oh my, Joanna! That is a lot of snow. After growing up in Misery and then spend six winters in Germany, and then driving over the pass here in Washington for two years, I would just as soon avoid snow!

Did you see a lot of snow in MO? We lived about an hour away from Springfield for a couple years and rarely got snow...very disappointing to two little girls who wanted to go sledding! 😁 We did get a lot of ice storms though. Snow is nice in moderation, but Maine never heard of that word! 😆

We are leaving Maryland and moving to Maine full-time after spending the summer half of the year there for many years. We close on Valentine's Day. The snow is so beautiful and I can't wait.
