The Castor Bean plants are growing so fast that I had to move them into these tubs only one week after I had transplanted them into the largest pots I have! It will be at least another 2 weeks before I can safely plant them in the garden. Meanwhile, I hope they don't outgrow these because I have nothing else that will hold them! And they are supposed to be a "smaller" variety! Looks like they are getting ready to flower, too! I spend time just sitting and admiring them every day. These are definitely the most exotic and fascinating plants I've ever grown! My collection. Notice that they all have a reddish tint but the one on the left! I can hardly wait to see them in the garden! :)

The puppies all went to their new homes a couple of weeks ago. It's so hard to let them go (they are almost like my children!), but they've got great homes, and I'll get to see them again. From what I've heard, they are doing very well. :) I'm expecting another litter in June from my dog Nellie. It's going to be a busy summer!

My brother gave me a seed pod but I haven't planted it yet. Isn't there something of the castor tree that is poisonous?

Yes, the seeds and the entire plant are highly poisonous, which makes a lot of people afraid to grow it. But as long as you don't eat it, I think it is quite safe. I handle mine every day without a problem. The main thing is to keep it away from young children and pets.

The castor bean gets huge. Like 8-10' here in Florida. Use the beans in mole holes to kill moles that are eating your plants.
