In a Vase on Monday: Winter Herbs

11/27/2017

Saturday was so mild and beautiful, I felt like it was late April instead of almost December! But our weather is very unpredictable...when I woke up this morning it had been raining and most of the snow was gone. By the time I had finished chores, however, it was already back to a winter wonderland!

I have really fallen in love with herbs this year! Half of the pleasure of gardening for me is in all the fragrances. Even today in the snow, I can brush my hand against some lemon balm, or catnip, or lavender, or oregano, and just breathe in the scents! It really lifts my spirits on a dreary day! Needless to say, I'm planning to grow many more herbs next year!

I think Sweet William is so beautiful in snow...

And now finally, my vase! These are just a few sprigs of oregano and horehound. I found out that the horehound seedheads will stick to gloves like burrs!

I found this vase at a thrift store last month, and have been looking forward to using it. Since I've started participating in IAVOM, I find myself looking at vases whenever we shop there! :)

So there's my winter vase! You can see what other gardeners have arranged today at Rambling in the Garden. Have a great week!

I absolutely adore your garden and it is especially lovely with a snowy coat. Our snow melted the day after we had the first big snow of 3 inches (escaping the forecasted 10 inches). We are late with snow and December seems to be predicted to come in warmer like the rest of fall.

I adore herbs too and have them tucked all around. And your snowy vase is perfect...so lovely also coated in snow.

I'm so glad you like my little garden, Donna! It makes me very happy when it brings joy to others, too. :)
It's good you escaped the 10 inches of snow (unless you like snow, of course!). Our fall has been mostly mild, too.

Oh that's a great image of the sprigs covered in snow and in their snowy setting too - such a topical IAVOM for this time of year. We had a sprinkling of snow on Saturday too but like yours it soon went - but has not returned (yet)!

Wow, winter has really rushed into your area. We are still completely snow-free in Chicago.

Last year we had over a foot of snow by now, so it's pretty mild, although we've had some colder temps. I'm hoping we'll get an easier winter this year!

Now that is what I call creative! Why let a little bit of snow stop you? :)

Exactly! We can't afford to let snow stop us, up here! :D

Winters can be hard, but a lot of fun too, if you like to ski or snowshoe. :)

Your beautiful vase wouldn't look out of place in Narnia!

That is a gorgeous vase and looks so pretty in the snow. It seems vases are as addictive as plants. I love aromatic plants and am careful to put them where I can smell them as I pass.

Thank you, Alison! If only I can find a place to keep them, I might have quite a vase collection some day. :)
