In a Vase on Monday: Cottage Garden Bouquet

I have greatly enjoyed seeing others' weekly flower arrangements on some of the garden blogs I've been following, and finally decided to join in this week! As I think I mentioned in a previous post, my flower arrangements tend to be as messy as my garden. But these lovely old-fashioned flowers never fail to look good together, no matter how inexperienced this gardener may be! So here is a little bit of everything...
Picture
An attempted close-up of the heliotrope, surrounded by nicotiana, catnip, snapdragon and a bachelor's button...
Picture
Most of the borage has finished blooming, but I still have a few plants in a shady area that got off to a slow start and still have plenty of flowers. In the background is balsam, catnip, and a petunia (barely visible).
Picture
I think this is some kind of campanula. It blooms under a tree in the front yard every August.
Picture
Appleblossom snapdragon...these actually smell like bubblegum! This is actually a picture from a bouquet I made a couple weeks ago (I couldn't seem to get a good picture of it today). The white flowers around it are valerian.
Picture
And some columbine seed pods. I like a flower that continues to look interesting even after its flowers have long gone!

And that's it! To see more arrangements from gardeners everywhere, please visit ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/2017/08/07/in-a-vase-on-monday-snow-in-summer/ !

Thank you so much for joining us and sorry getting your link visible was such a pain - hopefully it will appear immedaitely next time. As IAVOM is all about what is in our gardens at the moment it doesn't matter whether they are cultivated blooms or not, or even blooms of course, and your abundance of 'wilder' blooms is well worth celebrating - such joy in abundance! Is your antirrhinum 'Twinny Appleblossom'? I struggled to get individual varieties of this as seed for this year as I did really well with 'Twinny White' the last few years. what a good idea to use aquilegia seed heads - I have been quite thorough with deadheading mine this year to prevent unwanted excesses!

Thank you for your help with getting the link shared, and for hosting us! :)
The antirrhinum is just called 'Appleblossom', but maybe it's the same. I got the seed from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds (rareseeds.com).

It's an exuberant display. I love that snapdragon - my own are long gone. They're late winter/early spring blooms in my climate.

Thank you! :) We live in a pretty cold climate, so even some flowers that normally bloom in late spring elsewhere don't flower until July here!

PS I can't seem to comment on your blog, but I love all your arrangements this week! Very elegant!

A gorgeous summer arrangement, Joanna. The blue stars of borage is esp. lovely!
PS I don't see a button to follow your site - where is it?

Thanks Eliza! :) Borage has become a favorite to put in my arrangements!
I don't think I have a button to follow my blog, unfortunately. But I usually post once or twice a week. :)

Hmmm, that is unusual. Maybe you should try Wordpress? We love it over here. ;)

It's tempting! Still, I wouldn't like to lose everything I've already posted here. Something to consider, though. Thanks!
