Hark! how the hollow winds and moaning surges Meanwhile the trees their naked forms uprear, The nightshade's deadly berries deck his locks, He tramples down the summer flowers—a wreck

I have never thought of November as a sad and dreary month. As I look out my window, I see a carpet of yellow on the lawns and two young bucks exploring among the dried-up grasslands. A gentle fawn is nearby, lying in the leaves. Squirrels are scampering to and fro gathering their winter supply of nuts, and the window pane is cool...refreshing to the touch. Though the sun does not shine as much as it does in the summer, and the skies are not as blue, autumn is a time of preparation for the "season of reflection" when it's too cold to go outside for very long. Inside, it's cozy and warm. A fire crackles in the fireplace...children dance and squeal with excitement for the upcoming holiday celebrations...husbands and wives snuggle up, remembering the love that brought them together in the beginning. These, and many more, are the joys for which November prepares! November is beautiful, for it is another thirty days that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Your November sounds more like the end of September for us!😁 Winters here can be brutal and usually don't provide a lot of time for snuggling up by the fire. But, I have been enjoying this November and rejoicing in all the beauty that is still to be found! This quote from C. S. Lewis' autobiography, Surprised by Joy, has had quite an impact in my life and sums up better than I can the spirit I was trying to convey through this post:
